Hello and welcome to La Liga Team of the season Predictions. Overall pretty hard to find 23 players for this TOTS, not because of a lot of choices, but mostly because of lack of choices.

This season of La Liga is weird. Real Madrid is running away with a title, while 5 teams battling for 3 Champion League Spots. There’s a good mix of good teams that are playing pretty good: Real Betis, Real Sociedad, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, Barcelona. These 6 teams should get the most TOTS cards, while teams from lower rankings might not get a lot of cards. I think it’s supposed to be like this, but still kinda sad, as usually we have some good mid table teams with some good shouts for TOTS. Maybe I’ll do some exceptions and might include player from team that might get relegated, but I’ll explain my choice a bit later.

What else to say before we start. La Liga is a good league, proven once again on European stage with 2 teams in semi finals in UCL. It also has one of the best inventions in football: 4K cameras that allowing translations to be insane and I suggest you to watch some of them. They have a very exciting race for top 4 and very nice battle for relegation too. I still don’t know who will go down and who will get in UCL, so last 7 games in the league will be fun to watch and exciting to see results.

Of course, as a disclaimer: I’m doing these predictions before TOTS even announced and season is far from over (around 9-7 games left in league). So, few players can be included, if they finish season strong and had an alright season before. It happened before; it might happen again.

Also, few more details. I’m not including players that just recently got some Special cards. Especially those who were included in FUT Fantasy promoFUT Captains Promo. I wanted to include some players, but obviously they are already high enough rated and might get even higher rating later in the season.

Also, I’m including more than 15 players in these predictions, as I don’t know whole concept of TOTS this year. I didn’t expect it to be only 15 players last season, this season I hope it’ll be different. I can’t fit only 15 players in Predictions. I wanted to, but even at 23 players I was founding more and more players who deserve it. So, I hope that this year we’ll get more than 15 players, also a lot of SBCs for TOTSMoments.

As per usual, I’m starting with Goalkeepers.

Main option for me would be Thibaut Courtois. Despite him keeping “only” 13 Clean Sheets – Real Madrid still 2nd best team in conceded goals. They conceded 28 goals and only Sevilla conceded less. They would concede and drop way more points if it wasn’t for Thibaut. He was very good last season and he’s even better this year. Arguably he’s top 3 goalkeepers in the world right now and had amazing performances all over the league.

2nd option for me would be Alex Remiro. It’s very hard to exclude a man who had 18 clean sheets with 6th place team. Sociedad had a good season, but injury of Oyarzabal and not scoring a lot of goals ruined chances for UCL for next season (even tho they still in race for that). They only scored 32 goals and conceded 30 (only 2 teams conceded less: Real Madrid and Sevilla).

Overall in La Liga there’re a lot of good goalkeepers who deserve TOTS. For example, Jeremias Ledesma can get TOTS for keeping Cadiz up (if they’ll survive). He already got 3 IFs, so TOTS wouldn’t be a surprise. Actually might get a cool moments card. Same goes for David Soria from Getafe, who can get similar card for keeping Getafe up. Bono had a decent season, Sergio Herrera too. A lot of choices, but I think Courtois should be a lock.

As we’ve finished with GKs – time to move to defenders. And that’s where we have a lot of nice and maybe not so nice choices.

I’m starting with full back: Jordi Alba is the only full back in my opinion who deserves TOTS. He had a good year, he improved a lot from previous season and did put a very good numbers. He got 1 goal and 8 assists and was a crucial player for Barca this year. Sadly, that’s probably it for Full-backs in La Liga TOTS that I think that deserve TOTS cards. I mean it’s really pretty dull. There’s possibility of Damian Suarez from Getafe being in TOTS team. He, alongside Soria and Unal are the reason that Getafe may stay up, but his 2nd part of the season not so great too. Apart from him – I don’t know. Real Madrid rotated full-backs a lot, no one had a good season. Atletico too – sold Trippier in winter, left backs were rotated. In other teams… Maybe Alex Moreno from Betis with 5 goals and 3 assists and overall solid season.

There’s a chance for Acuna from Sevilla, but his inclusion in Headliners was surprising to me, so his potential TOTS would be surprising too. But still – he’s highest rated Sevilla player and had good moments this season. 1 goal and 3 assist help his case, but Sevilla been pretty bad in 2nd part of the season, and Acuna isn’t an exception. Maybe he’ll get it, but as I’ve said – I’ll be surprised. As for Right-backs it’s even harder. I mentioned Suarez, but that’s it. I honestly don’t know who deserves TOTS from RB position.

Let’s move to Center-backs. At least here we have a lot of choices: Militao, Diego Carlos, Araujo, Le Normand. These are my main picks for center-back position. Starting with Militao. Overall, if we exclude one game vs Barca – Eder was very good. At one point – I was including him in every TOTW because he played that well. Still, despite not collecting many special cards – he had a wonderful season for Real Madrid, he scored once, he assisted twice and was good overall. His TOTS will be amazing and long-awaited by many. Going to be a fantastic card that will be close to his last year’s FOF card.

Eder’s rival from Barcelona, who had a very good season is Ronald Araujo. Probably best Barcelona CB this season, played a lot of games and was good in most of them, scored 4 goals too. Araujo is the next big thing for Barca and Uruguay and his TOTS should have a big boost and be good.

3rd player in defense is Diego Carlos from Sevilla. As I’ve said already – Sevilla conceded least number of goals in La Liga and their partnership of Carlos and Kounde is the main reason for that. I decided for Diego Carlos, as he was calmer and got less red cards, that’s why he’s my choice. 3 goals to his name and overall, very solid season.

And last choice for me it was between 2 Real Sociedad players – Robin Le Normand and Aritz Elustondo. For me Le Normand was just a bit better, but for some – Elustondo. Both were really good, Elustondo scored 4 goals and got 1 assist, Le Normand had 1 goal and 1 assist. So yeah, it all depends on EA, but I think one of them deserves it. I mean one had Headliner card, other had POTM award to his name. Both were good partnership and important for Sociedad in their quest for Europe.

Apart from those who I already named – maybe Pau Torres from Villarreal. They had mixed season in La Liga and their main achievements came in Champions League, but even then they’ll probably finish 7th in table. Pau Torres by far their best CB and he has a bright future ahead of him, exciting talent and had a good season too. They didn’t concede a lot of goals, only 31 in 33 games, but I don’t know if he’ll get TOTS this season. We’ll see!

Moving on to midfielders and I feel like I’m seeing typical list of good and old players in midfield as per usual. My main options are: Parejo and Modric, Soler on the bench and Trejo with Darder in reserves. I’ll go one by one.

I think Modric having an insane season, especially for 36 years old player. He’s an engine of Real Madrid and should get a wonderful TOTS (if he’ll get upgraded from his WW card). Modric maybe only got 2 goals and 5 assists, maybe that’s not a lot, but his contributions isn’t showing his class. He controls midfield, tackles and plays wonderfully for Real Madrid. Potentially other choice from Real Madrid would be Toni Kroos with 1 goal and 3 assists. Same thing here – contributions don’t show full picture. Same class, as per usual.

Parejo – another year – another TOTS, right? Leader of Villarreal on the pitch and great season for Dani again. 2 goals and 6 assists. As I’ve said – not the best season for Villarreal, maybe not even European Spot for him – but still can’t ignore certain individual performances. One of them is Dani Parejo.

Carlos Soler to me is a reason why Valencia is relevant this season to some extent. I mean not just relevant, at least they are not in bottom half of the table (yet). 11 goals and 5 assists to his name, top top player and I feel like he’ll leave Valencia rather soon. He’s their leader and I’ll feel sad if he’ll leave the club soon. But yeah, 10th place for Valencia not that good, but could’ve been worse (they can still win a cup).

Darder and Trejo – 2 players from newly promoted teams and both clubs had pretty good seasons. I mean Rayo for a long time went in 1st part of the table, but after a strong start they crumbled. Trejo still should get some sort of TOTS with his 3 goals and 9 assists. Pretty quiet 2nd part of the season, but very nice first part should be rewarded. Sergi Darder is pretty similar, but he had a good 2nd part of the season: 3 goals and 8 assists to his name. Espanyol had a pretty good season and they’ll for sure will survive and won’t get relegated.

That’s it for midfielders. Pretty meh, I think. I don’t think Pedri or someone from Barca should get it. Pedri was decent, he got cool FS card and that should be enough. Others – IDK. Would include Busquets, but he got Captains card. Maybe Rakitic from Sevilla – but also kinda average season. I’m just naming few options that can be considered for TOTS, but won’t make it IMO. Maybe De Paul, but he had pretty meh 1st part of the season too.

We’re moving to wingers and small disclaimer: I didn’t include Ousmane Dembele – he got way too good Fantasy card, that’s why I’m not including him in TOTS.

Apart from them: Vinicius, Carrasco, Correa, Juanmi.

Vinicius had way too good of a season. 14 goals, 7 assists, Headliners, POTM – nuff said about him – he’ll get insane TOTS.

Carrasco had decent season in Atletico shirt – again – Headliners and 5 goals and 5 assists. He may be include in Community TOTS – so he might get in both teams. Or only Community – then he’ll miss this one. Still decent season and decent numbers in not so high-scoring Atletico team.

Correa – same as Carrasco, but he played mostly as a striker so he scored more goals: 11 goals and 5 assists and should get a very fun TOTS card with some sick stats and can be used on a wing.

Juanmi is a surprise of a season for Betis with 14 goals and 3 assists. Very good numbers from left-midfielder and very well deserved TOTS. To add to his name: he got POTM and several special cards and they play a big part too. Well, because of Juanmi goals – Betis still in race for UCL and overall having a nice season. They’ll also play in Cup Final.

Other attacker from Betis that should get TOTS – fan favorite – Fekir. He got 6 goals and 7 assists and overall been best Betis player. He shines in this team, as Pellegrini built a team and system where he shines and it’s great to see Fekir play at very good level. FUT players know about his card and dreading his TOTS, as it’s going to be a very big pain to play against.

Moving on to strikers: Gerard Moreno, Benzema, Aspas, Raul De Tomas and Morales. A lot of usual names.

Should I even cover Benzema? Insane season from him, insane numbers: 25 goals and 11 assists and a lot carrying for Real Madrid. Of course he’s getting TOTS and it should be a very good one. Like very good one.

Aspas – same stuff as per usual. The Legend of Celta managed to score 14 goals and got 4 assists and that’s why Celta ain’t battling for relegation. Another season – another TOTS for Aspas. Nothing new, nothing special.

Moreno or Danjuma from Villarreal should get TOTS. Moreno numbers aren’t that good with only 9 goals and 3 assists, but maybe he’ll get TOTS. With him on the pitch – Villarreal is a different team. Danjuma is a possibility too with 10 goals. Arnaut had a better 2nd half of the season and deserves some sort of a card, I’d say Moments is more fitting for him, but if they’ll exclude Moreno – they can easily fit in Danjuma for him. Both would be good.

Raul De Tomas – another player from Espanyol who deserves TOTS. With 15 goals and 3 assists – he’s top 3 goal scorer in La Liga and should get recognition for that. Him and Darder are the main reasons why Espanyol are having good 1st season in La Liga.

And last but not least: Jose Morales from Levante. 34 years old man carrying Levante on his back with 11 goals and 3 assists and he actually might save them from relegation if he’ll have few more good games. They sit 6 points away from safety and nothing is impossible and if they’ll survive – Morales should get TOTS.

So yeah, this is it. I think Predictions for La Liga were really hard, as I felt there were a lot of debatable choices and some players missed out, but hopefully I’ll get good score. We’ll see how it goes and as per usual – I’m open for discussion on the twitter!
