FIFA 23: Bundesliga Team of The Season Predictions
Hello and welcome to Bundesliga Team of The Season predictions. This season in Bundesliga is called a “snail race” and that’s for a reason. Let’s explain it.
The race for the title between BVB and Bayern looks very exciting from neutral point of view, but fans of the clubs are in big depression. Both clubs aren’t at their best and struggling a lot, but we still should get a lot of TOTS from them and quality of players in those 2 clubs is just above others.
I’m not downplaying other clubs, overall season is exciting. There’s Union Berlin who started their season amazingly and shocked the world, there’s Freiburg, who’s finally looking to finish in UCL spot, there’s Leizpig under Marco Rose and playing sometimes well, sometimes not so well and there’s Bayer Leverkusen that looks like a real deal under Xabi Alonso. All those clubs should get 1 or 2 TOTS and we’ll cover them.
Main surprise of the season: lack of great strikers, after Lewandowski and Haland left – feels like everyone forgot how to score and we have best striker now in midtable Werder. So, there will be a lot of defendersmidfielders, but lesser amount of strikers.
We’ll go position by position, as usual, so let’s go.

We start with goalkeepers. Main issue – there’s no clear number 1 or even number 2. Neuer was injured after World Cup and no one else performed at highest level. Of course, main choice is Gregor Kobel from BVB, but I assure you that he made mistakes. Even whole world watched him whiff a pass vs Bayern in very important game. Only 9 clean sheets, but other options are worse. Main contender for that spot, apart from Kobel, is Kevin Trapp. He had a very strong first half of a season, but then whole Frankfurt dipped hard. They were challenging for Champions League spot, but now only looking at Cup, which they can win. Only 5 CS, but with that defense and whole structure – it’s alright. Of course, not the best numbers, but we’ve got no choice overall.
Now, speaking about defenders. It’s fun, when I tell you that there’re no good goalkeepers in the league, but there are a lot of good defenders. Mostly because they score and assist a lot. Fullbacks in Bundesliga are really good. We’ll start with Bayern and, despite their struggles in attack, a lot of their defenders should get TOTS. New signing De Ligt performed at amazing level for whole season, scored important goals and was a leader in the back, even when Bayern struggled. 6 clean sheets, 3 goals and 1 assist for Dutch CB and he was worth every penny that Bayern paid for him. Other surprising option for Bayern is Benjamin Pavard. He played at RB and CB and after World cup and injury of Lucas Hernandez – something changed and he played at insane level. Apart from good defensive job, he also excelled in attack with 4 important goals, that mostly came in 2nd part of the season. Pavard should get a nice card and it’ll be interesting to see if he’ll get alternative position as CB. And the last option from Bayern is Alphonso Davies. I wouldn’t probably include him if it wasn’t a public voting, but here we are. I don’t think he was at his usual level this season, but he’s fan favorite and still played at good level. He managed to register 4 assists and got 1 goal in Bundesliga. So yeah, if it wasn’t for voting – I wouldn’t include him.
Moving from Bayern to their rivals – Borussia, we have two main options. First one is Nico Schlotterbeck. Very bright season for him in new club, a lot of good highlights and he played well especially after World Cup. He kept 8 clean sheets, got 4 assists and got 4 goals to his name. Overall he’s a must TOTS and I can see his card being very popular. Another option from BVB is Raphael Guerreiro. He played some games as CM, some as LB. But his TOTS should be LB with alternative position as CM. 3 goals and 12 assists and it’s very good numbers, even for midfielder. He’s a must TOTS too.
As other option as LB we can get Borna Sosa from Stuttgart, but club position might be against it. He got 7 assists and 2 goals and if Stuttgart survives – he might be one of the main reasons for that. As for other options from other clubs: Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen is fan favorite and actually had a very fun season, after Xabi Alonso came in. 8 goals and 6 assist for Fullback, who played at very high level whole season and also kept 9 CS with Hradecky in net is actually a good result. Should be very popular card and should be expensive one.
To link him we’ll have Danihlo Doekhi from Union Berlin. A lot of good Dutch defenders in Bundesliga and they should be all good. 8 clean sheets, 4 goals, 1 assist. Best Union defender and overall very good player. Union had a very good start to a season, then dropped off a bit, but still currently in UCL spot and it’ll be a miracle if they’ll get UCL spot and their city Rival will get relegated.
We finally finished with defenders and moving to midfielders. There are 2 main players that will get TOTS no matter what because they both had very good seasons, both lead their clubs to glory and also people vote for him. Jude Bellingham and Joshua Kimmich will be in TOTS. Both will be fantastic cards and they are main cards in this TOTS. Jude had 5 goals and 4 assists, Kimmich had 4 goals and 6 assists. Both among the highest rated players in Bundesliga.
After that we have few interesting options. I went with Julian Brandt as 3rd option for midfield. His stint after World Cup was impressive and he got 8 goals and 5 assists to his name, he should get very fun TOTS and should be good option as RWCAM for your Bundesliga squads. I’m not 100% convinced with him, but other options aren’t as good.
On the bench I have Vincenzo Grifo from Freiburg (as I’ve said – Freiburg looking to get UCL spot) and Grifo is their leader and main man. 13 goals and 4 assists, very good numbers, decent TOTS, welcome to your fodder packs.
Ellyes Skhiri is another option for your fodder, but speaking about IRL – probably best Koln player, had bright season, got 6 goals, got 1 assist, highly rated by Kicker. Should be at least TOTS Moments, but maybe we’ll get his TOTS card. It’s a bit debatable option, as he’s not highly known or he’s not popular and Koln kinda struggling, but they are safe from relegation and he’s a reason why they are safe, without him Koln playing a lot worse.
Jonas Hofmann was my choice before I went with Skhiri, but as we have limited spots – I decided to exclude him, but nevertheless he can get TOTS and it’ll be a deserving one. He also got 9 goals and 8 assists, but he went really streaky and a lot of his ga went in 1 big game or another and his Kicker rating isn’t the best, BUT he might get an SBCObjective and it’ll be very deserved card.
Now, if we’re talking about strikers and attackers overall – it’s not looking good. Coman already got his TOTS, so not sure if Sane will get it, as he hasn’t had a great 2nd half of a season, so let’s check some other options.
Main one – Nicklas Fullkrug will get TOTS for his heroics for Werder, he scored 16 goals and got 5 assists and he’s main man in national team, so overall his TOTS is a must.
Same can be said about Kolo Muani who’s leading Bundesliga in G+A chart with 13 goals and 10 assists, so he’ll get an interesting TOTS too. Probably fodder for most people, but we’ll see (same about Fullkrug btw).
And the last few options are hard. I went with Nkunku as he had a good first half, then got injured, then came back and might help Leipzig to get to UCL next season with his 13 goals and 1 assist. I’m serious, when I’m saying that there’re not many options. Apart from players I’ve named – only Thuram scored more than 12 goals. It’s not looking good.
And 2 last attacking options are fan favorite Jamal Musiala and Moussa Diaby. Jamal had rough few months at the end of the season, but apart from that – he had a very bright season with 12 goals and 8 assists. In his age – it’s very impressive and his TOTS card should be wonderful.
Moussa Diaby is your favorite SBC in FUT 23 and it might get even better with this fun TOTS that he should get for getting 9 goals and 7 assists. I saw him getting loads of votes and it’s understandable, because him and Frimpong played at amazing level on that right flank of Leverkusen.
This season in Bundesliga felt like it’s kinda worse than others, because there aren’t a lot of good goalkeeping options, attacking options too. But there are a lot of defenders and midfielders. Still we should get some gems and a lot of fodder. I expect this to be very cheap TOTS apart from few good options. Let’s see how it goes!
