Hello and Welcome to December Player of The Month predictions for Ligue 1. Gaetan Laborde was named deservingly, as I’ve mentioned in my previous article. Surprised that we didn’t see Mbappe nominee, but I guess he needs to perform some magic to be included in POTM voting. So, yeah, let’s see how this month unfolds.

I’ll tell you straight from the start – don’t expect a lot of big names mentioned in this article, just because Ligue 1 was quiet this month. No PSG player should be in the voting, because even tho they went unbeaten – they drew 3 out of 5 last games and overall were bad on the pitch. A lot of things going wrong way for them, so idk what to expect later.

Despite that! They are leading the league by 13 points and it’s insane how close the league after that. Gap between 1st and 2nd – 13 points, while gap between 2nd and 14th – 10 points. Yes, it’s that close in the rest of the table and 1 win1 loss changes standings a lot. 2nd place Rennes performed badly this month and lost 3 out of 5 last games, which means they now sit at 4th spot. 2nd place occupied by Nice, which was expected, because they spent a lot of money and acquired manager of last year’s winner of Ligue 1. At 3rd place Marseille, despite them having weird month with 1 draw and 1 loss. And then 5th – Montpellier, which had an insane run with 4 wins straight. So, let’s cover 3 main candidates for POTM.

Number 1 – Sofiane Diop from Monaco. They had decent run and climbed this month to 6th spot after they finished 12th that month. Diop is one of young Monaco prospects and he had a good month. First, he started with a goal vs Angers in 3-1 win. Then he continued with a goal and assist in 4-0 win over Metz. Then he had quiet game vs PSG, as whole Monaco, where they lost 0-2, and then he assisted a winner in 2-1 win over good Rennais side. Diop is another hot prospect in Monaco, and he’s already hyped by a lot of people and looks like Monaco would want a lot of money for him. Overall, in FUT he’s pretty meh card and his potential POTM would be 84 rated card. I think he’d cost just around 20k or so. Maybe even less. He’s not anything special.

We move to the next candidate: Jonathan David. What a year he’s having. David scored 12 goals in 19 games and people that doubted him at the start look silly nowadays. Top league scorer in Ligue 1 and he doesn’t look like he’ll stop soon. 2 goals in 4 games this month, with them all being important: Winner vs Bordeaux in 3-2-win, winner vs Troyes and nice performance in other 2 games. Well, it’s not looking like anything special, but David was robbed of previous nominations, so this one is like a “present” for him. Ligue 1 always nominee 1 person that didn’t quietly deserved POTM – so David is my pick for this month. His potential POTM is 87 rated and probably would still be worse than his Winter Wonderland… Winter Wildcard item. They boosted that one hard, so it’ll take a lot to overcome it. I’d say it would cost around 50k, not that much, but still a decent untradable to have. Had his red and it was really fun card, people saying that his WW card is also good, so will be quite popular.

And last, but not least – Teji Savanier. What a month by silky French player. Leader of Montpellier in amazing form. He has 5 goals and 6 assists in those 16 games. So…Let’s cover: 1 goal in 3-1 win over Metz, 1 assist in 4-0 win over Brest and 1 goal and 1 assist in 4-1 win over Angers. TOTW of L’equipe in every single week, he’s just way too good. His potential card would be 87, but if he gets TIF – he’d be 88 and I assume he’d be close to Gullit Gang or will be in it. Very sick card with nice stats. I enjoy Savanier a lot IRL, feels like he’s underrated by many and it’s a shame that he’s not playing in big club. I’d say his card would worth around 80100k, as it’ll be pretty good option for people’s squad.

Benjamin Bourigeaud from Rennes would be another option, same with Martin Terrier. Both had decent month: Benjamin scored 2 goals in 4 games and Terrier 4 in 4 (3 of those came in 1 game), but Rennes lost 3 games this month, so idk if I should include them really. Both would be mediocre cards. I mean Terrier would be fine with him already having IF – his potential POTM would be 86 rated with some sick stats and would link to Laborde. Bourigeaud would be 84 rated POTM with average stats. Both would be quite cheap; I’d say even cheaper than Laborde.

Maybe I missed someone, that should be nominated – you’ll tell me, but honestly couldn’t find anyone that performed at POTM level for a full month, apart from those players.

It should be Savanier, but you never know with Ligue 1 POTM, we got many surprises by them.
