FIFA 21: Player of the Month Prediction - Ligue 1 August POTM

Well, well, well. August is over and it’s time for POTMs. I honestly don’t know if we’ll get first POTM for FUT 22 for August or last in FUT 21, but nevertheless we should get him.

In this article we discussing first month of Ligue 1. This league started earlier than other 4 top leagues, so yeah, they had just 1 more game played. Overall a lot of interest in Ligue 1 this year – obviously mostly because of PSG and their transfers. Ramos, Wijnaldum, Hakimi, Donnarumma… I think I forgot someone. Oh yeah. Messi now plays for PSG. This is a new reality and we all live in it. PSG the only team with 4 wins at start. Now, back to league and other teams. Some surprises at top: Angers and Clermont started season unbeaten. Nice – who got themselves ex Lille coach (who led them to championship last season) are currently unbeaten with 7 points, same with Marseille. But many people remember that the game between them didn’t finish because of fans and there’s no result for that game yet. Both usual top teams: Lyon and Lille had rough starts to a season. Both got 5 points after 4 games: 2 draws, 1 loss and 1 win.

As I don’t know when we’ll get POTM SBC – I’ll be using FUT 21 ratings, so don’t be mad if you’ll think that it’ll be useless card. Yeah, I know that.

There’re a lot of players who started season well and before going to top 3 picks – I’ll cover some other candidates that might get nominated:

1st in line is Amine Gouiri. Last season was breakthrough for Amine and he’s continuing his great form this year with 3 goals and 1 assist in 3 games. 2 goals in 4-0 trashing of Bordeaux, 1 goal and 1 assist vs ex-champions Lille. Overall really solid start for a season for him and Nice.

Moussa Dembele is a shining spot in Lyon team with 3 goals in 4 games. He scored 2 goals in 3-3 draw vs Clermont (very funny game, if you want to have some exciting 10 minutes – look up for highlights of that game), and 1 winning goal vs Nantes.

Cengiz Under started his life in Marseille with a run of 3 consecutive goalscoring games: 1 goal in 3-2 win over Montpellier, 1 goal in 2-2 draw vs Bordeaux, 1 goal in 3-1 win over Saint-Etienne. Hopefully he found his team and will perform well over the whole year.

Jonathan Clauss continues his great form from last year: 2 assists and a goal from RWB position: assists in 2-2 draw vs Saint-Etienne and 2-0 win over Monaco and goal in 2-2 draw vs Lens.

As you can see it’s pretty high scoring league and we have a lot of goals in every match-day. Now let’s move to 3 main candidates:

Kylian Mbappe is, obviously, performing well. Despite his transfer saga he’s playing on an amazing level as per usual: 3 goals and 2 assists in 4 games: assist vs Troyes in 2-1 win, assist in 4-2 win over Strasbourg, 1 goal vs Brest and 2 goals vs Reims. If he wins – it’d be his 2nd POTM this FIFA and would be 93 rated ST. Honestly I don’t think it’d be rather expensive if it’ll be in FUT 21 – probably around 100k or so? If it’ll be in FUT 22 – Brace yourself. It should be very fun POTM.

Chances of POTM: 40%

Next up I have is one of my personal favorites in Ligue 1: Andy Delort. Despite Montpellier winning only 1 game, drawing 1 and losing 1 – Andy performed well: 1 goal in 3-3 draw vs Reims and 1 goal and 1 assist vs Lorient. Yeah, his numbers aren’t as good, as for example, Gouri – but still he started season nicely and I hope to see him in better club after this transfer window or maybe next. If he wins – he’d get 88 rated card and would be really cheap. I still don’t know how he didn’t get TOTS for last season, but whatever.

Chances of POTM: 20%

And the main candidate is: Dimitry Payet from Marseille. 2 goals vs Montpellier, 1 goal vs Bordeaux and 1 assist vs Saint-Etienne. Best performing player at the start of the season by L’equipe and shining under Sampaoli management. He’d get 87 rated card, but would love to get something like this next FUT at the start – would be really nice and cheap option to start with

Chances of POTM: 40%

I hope Payet will win, but Ligue 1 before surprised us with nominees and winners, so maybe this month won’t be an exception.

Start of Ligue 1 is exciting and I hope to see a very fun race for European spots between Nice, Lyon, Marseille, Lille and Monaco later in the season.
