FIFA 20 TOTSSF Predictions: Ligue 1
Hope you’re enjoying what we’ve had of Team of the Season So Far! For our predictions we’re taking a look at Ligue 1 next, as always our predictions are powered by Score More with Xbox!
Ligue 1 this season was one of the tightest leagues in the world…. if we exclude 1st and last places, every matchday there were multiple changes in the table but PSG were always leading the pack throughout.
Of course it’s explainable – they have by far the best squad in the league and all of other clubs have had some troubles over the course of the season.
There were two surprises in the clubs fighting behind PSG in the table, Marseille under Andre Villas-Boas performed amazingly over the course of the season and sat comfortably in 2nd. Mostly it’s because of the coach, he united the squad despite financial troubles and players ended up “repaying” him with performances.
The third spot was tightly contested between two teams, Rennes and Lille – Rennes is an interesting team, they were mostly middle of the pack over the last few years but this year, with other top clubs struggling, the showed that they have the strength to contest for that UCL spot.
Lille sold their main assets last summer in a face of Pepe and Thiago Mendes, started this season slowly but then improved massively.
The main “loser” of the season is probably Lyon, two manager changes and the injury to Depay kinda derailed their season, either way when you look at the table for a club of their stature 10 losses in 28 games is too much.
So yeah, this TOTSSF will be interesting, because there should be a mix of players from different teams.
Let’s start.
Goalkeepers.
There are a few main choices in the league. I went with Predrag Rajkovic from Reims, who was statistically the best GK in the league. Reims sit in the middle of the table and their defense is pretty impressive, but the main strength of their defense is him.
2nd choice is between 4 goalkeepers. You can possibly include Lecomte or Keylor Navas, but I went with Mandanda. Steve performed amazingly over the season for Marseille, and sometimes carried matches alone for Marseille.
Moving on to defenders:
The main duo is unsurprisingly from PSG, the brazillian perfect link duo – Thiago Silva and Marquinhos. They are always amazing, they always will get into Team of the Season and TOTSSF shouldn’t be much differnt – there’s not a lot more you can write about them. They were good. Really good. Thiago Silva surprises me more and more because despite of the age he’s still performing well. Marquinhos lately became one of the most reliable defenders in the world and PSG are very lucky to have him.
3rd choice is Yunis Abdelhamid from Reims, another player from Reimes. The leader of their defense and he even scored 3 goals. Yeah, he might not be popular, but he’s been really good this year for Reims.
4th choice is Gabriel from Lille, one of the breakthroughs of the season! There are a host of clubs queuing up to register their interest in him, no doubt there will be a flurry of activity when the transfer window will be opened. Gabriel has been the best Lille defender and it’s a massive compliment to the 22 year old center back.
Faitout Maouassa is my last pick for defenders, another youngster from Rennes. They produce so many good young players and Faitout is one of them for this year, adding 3 goals and registered 1 assist to an impressive season.
Moving on to Midfielders:
As always: let’s start with PSG: Idrissa Gueye and Marco Verratti have been really important for PSG, they really make the team click. The transfer of Gueye been very impactful for PSG and they were obviously missing a player like him in the last few seasons, particularly after the departure of Matuidi. Verratti is always sensational, what more can you say about him?
Next player on the list is Renato Sanches, a real redemption season for him. He joined Lille after a few rough seasons at Bayern and other loan clubs and performed amazingly. He played in multiple positions and excelled throughout the season. He’s also a fan favorite player which means he will likely be included in TOTSSF.
Teji Savanier is performing well 2nd year in a row, but now at a different team. He transferred to Montpellier and showed why he was so good last season, scoring 6 goals and picking up 1 assist.
Alexander Golovin is my last pick for central midfielder, not only because he’s Russian but he also improved his game massively after a rough 1st year in France. Sometimes he was used “wrongly” on the wing but when he played at the center of the team, he instantly showed why Monaco paid so much money for him last season. Hopefully he’ll get into TOTSSF, as he also provides a nice link to Ben Yedder.
Wingers:
Dimitry Payet once again showed his best qualities. He mostly played as Left-Winger in 4-3-3 formation and played well, he has to be one of the “locks” for me in the TOTSSF because he just was so good.
Denis Bouanga is the best performer of struggling Saint-Etienne, he scored 10 goals and registered 3 assists, and if it wasn’t for his contributions ASSE would be probably in relegation zone.
Raphinha is another player from Rennes. Statistically their best player, he scored 5 goals and registered 3 assists in 20 games as right winger and he was really good over the year.
Another pick from PSG is Angel Di Maria. Man, what a year for him, for me – he’s best in the league after Neymar, he’s really stepped up and showed what he’s capable of. He scored 8 goals and registered 14 assists in 23 games and that’s an insane record. When one of the PSG attackers was injured or wasn’t performing well enough Di Maria was always there to carry PSG.
Attackers:
Obvious choices: Mbappe, Neymar and Ben Yedder. Holy trio of Weekend League will be getting TOTSSF and Neymar with Ben Yedder will be insane. Of course they had very good seasons, I’m not including them because of FUT. Ben Yedder is top scorer of Ligue 1 with Mbappe on 18 goals, Neymar has 13 goals and 6 assists.
Another locked in player is Moussa Dembele from Lyon. First and the last choice from Lyon, as I said – they struggled this season, but Dembele still scored 16 goals and got 2 assists. He made the Community Team of the Season So Far which might prevent him from making the league team but he really was that good that he should make the main team too.
Other choices: Victor Osimhen, joined Lille last summer and took the league by storm, scoring 13 goals -37% of Lille goals of the season! Very impressive season for Victor and he’s still young.
Dario Benedetto is another player from Marseille. He also moved to Ligue 1 last summer and also performed well, 11 goals is pretty good result in Ligue 1 and he should be in TOTSSF.
Same as Kasper Dolberg. Moved in the summer from Ajax and was kinda struggling in Nice at the start of the year, but then adapted to Ligue 1 and scored 11 goals before season was suspended.
This is my take on Ligue 1 TOTSSF Predictions. It’s one of the most exciting for me this year, because there are so many good and meta players and I think more people should start using players from Ligue 1(not only Mbappe-Neymar-Ben Yedder), hopefully TOTSSF will change that.
