Match Week 8 of the FC Pro Open has concluded, bringing Group D’s matches and the entire group stage of the competition to a close. Three more players have secured their spots in the knockout stages, finalising the list of 12 players who will battle it out in the next stage.

At the start of the day, KTZN was sitting at the bottom with just 3 points, and not many believed he had a chance to qualify. However, Group D delivered in spectacular fashion, providing one of the most thrilling days of the FC Pro Open so far.

Before diving into the tactics, let’s recap the Match Week 8 results and standings.

Paulo Neto kicked things off with an impressive 7-3 victory over reigning champion PHzin, firmly putting himself in the conversation for a top-three finish. KTZN also got off to a strong start with a crucial win against Fouma, while Abu Makkah secured his position at the top of the table by defeating Levi De Weerd. At this stage, only 2 points separated 2nd to 6th, leaving everything to play for in a tense and unpredictable group finale.

From that point forward, every round delivered high-stakes entertainment. KTZN kept the momentum going, consistently picking up points and climbing the table, while Levi De Weerd found his stride and went undefeated from Round 2 onward, making the race for qualification an unmissable spectacle.

Here’s how Group D concluded: Levi De Weerd, Abu Makkah, and KTZN clinched the three coveted qualification spots. It was an incredibly tight and fiercely contested group, a thrilling finish to the group stages of the FC Pro Open.

Now, the bit you have all been waiting for, let’s get into the Tactics.

Levi De Weerd: 4-2-3-1 (Narrow)

Levi opted for a less common formation in this tournament, the 4-2-3-1, which utilizes three CAMs supported by two CDMs.

Notably, the two outside CAMs were set to Shadow Striker, operating centrally and closer to the striker. As a result, this formation sacrifices width for a more compact and attacking approach through the middle.

Abu Makkah: 4-2-1-3

Abu Makkah opted for the increasingly popular 4-2-1-3 formation, which has become a regular choice as the weeks progress. This setup features two Roaming Inside Forwards, providing the attacking support.

KTZN: 4-2-1-3

Similar to Abu Makkah, KTZN also utilized the 4-2-1-3 formation, with the only notable difference being the use of a Deep-Lying Playmaker in the Build-Up role.

When using formations like these, it’s crucial that midfielders have strong passing PlayStyles, and you’ll notice this trend consistently across all setups.

PHzin: 4-4-1-1

PHzin is the only player using the 4-4-1-1, however this is another popular choice within the pro scene.

This setup is very standard, however he opts to use the Shadow Striker role in the CAM instead of Playmaker, this pushes the CAM further up field and acts as a second striker.

Fouma: 4-2-1-3

Fouma also opting for the 4-2-1-3, not too much more to say on this formation, other than the slight tweaks to roles per player. The only real difference here is the double Build-Up role for his Deep-Lying Playmaker CDMs.

Paulo Neto: 4-2-1-3

Paulo Neto also utilized the 4-2-1-3 formation, mirroring Fouma’s setup almost identically, with the exception of the left Fullback being set to Defend rather than Balanced. The rising popularity of this formation highlights just how effective it is, offering a superb balance of defensive stability and offensive firepower. It’s no surprise to see it becoming a go-to choice for many top competitors in the FC Pro Open.
