Fantasy FUT Depay - Spend or Swerve
POSITIVES & NEGATIVES
Positives
-
Depay has a really quick step over speed boost, it was noticeable when exiting the step over animation that his speed boost felt quicker than others
-
He has 91 shot power, this was definitely a positive to have in those one on one situations
-
5* Skill Moves is a huge positive, it allows the option to add variation to your attacks
-
High/Low work rates are perfect for a Striker
-
He has the Outside Foot Shot trait and this is extremely useful, especially as he only has a 3* weak foot
-
His alternative positions and LW and ST, this adds flexibility to squad building
-
Quite easy to link with his Nation and Club links
-
(New Gen Only) With an Architect chemistry style you can change his AcceleRATE type from Controlled to Lengthy
Negatives
-
3* Weak Foot is not ideal for a Striker as you could find yourself in a position where it could cost you a vital goal
-
84 Agility and 85 Balance is actually quite low for a player who is only 5’9” and has 90 Dribbling, however to negate this I would consider applying an Engine chemistry style
-
He has 84 Composure which isn’t really low, for the price I would have liked to see this a bit higher
-
350K is expensive for the current version of the card, however I do I understand this cost has considered the potential upgrade path for Depay
FUT FANTASY UPGRADE POSSIBILITIES
Here is how Depay could possibly look if he was to receive his FUT Fantasy upgrades. I personally expect him to receive 2 upgrades minimum, these will be for:
-
1 Win in Next 6 Games
-
3 Appearances in Next 6 Games
This will take him to a 91 rated card.
He also has a great chance of getting an additional upgrade for:
-
2 Goals or Assists in Next 6 Games
This will then take him to a 92 rated card.
The final upgrade for avoiding defeat in 6 games is going to be tricky as Atletico Madrid have some tough fixtures in that time, with the main one being Barcelona Away.
So for me, I expect Depay to be a 91 minimum, but there is a very high chance at a 92.
PLAYER COMPARISONS – IS HE BETTER THAN? – THIS 89 VERSION (5* SM Attackers < 500K)
It is important to note this comparison is based off the current 89 rated Depay version, not his potentially upgraded cards
Winter Wildcard Lacazette – 185K
-
Lacazette has a few things which he is better than Depay at, that is his Pace and he has a 4* Weak Foot, but overall Depay is better in the other key areas such as Shooting and Dribbling
-
Who would I choose, and why?
-
I would choose Depay, simply due to the extra Shooting and Dribbling, however the 4* Weak Foot of Lacazette is definitely a big miss for Depay
-
Winter Wildcard Jesus – 440K
-
Jesus is slightly better in most of the key areas for a Striker, he has better Pace, Dribbling and Shooting. Depay has far superior Passing and Physical
-
Who would I choose, and why?
-
I would choose Jesus, the reason being as a Striker he has better attributes than Depay and they are both 5* SM and 3* WF.
-
Future Stars Cherki – 480K
-
Cherki’s main attribute in comparison to Depay is that he has a 5* WF, he also has slightly better dribbling, other than that Depay excels in most areas
-
Who would I choose, and why?
-
I would choose Depay, the reason being he has far better attributes in all the areas needed for a Striker, if this was a CAM it would be a more difficult decision and in that case I would opt for Cherki
-
FUT Fantasy Hero Crouch – 280K
-
Crouch has the better Shooting and even more importantly he has 90 Composure, whereas Depay only has 84. Depay is better in pretty much most other areas, however these a two quite different players and suit different playstyles. Crouch is more of a target man whereas Depay is more suited to a pacey dribble playstyle.
-
Who would I choose, and why?
-
I would choose Depay, the main reason being he is a more complete player and will offer versatility to [playstyles that Crouch simply won’t be able to.
-
RATINGS
VERDICT
Depay was a fun card to use, he has good dribbling and the pace he exited his stopovers was really noticeable, also having 5* skill moves on a player is always such a nice option as it allows a variation to your attacks.
He played as a striker and scored a good amount of goals whilst also assisting a few so he definitely had a presence in the team.
The main issues with the card is that he only has 3* weak foot which of course is not ideal, and he has relatively low Balance and Agility, especially for someone his size so I would recommend an Engine chemistry style on him to boost this.
Now the question everyone wants to know, is he worth the coins, with FUT Fantasy players it is much harder to gauge the value of the player in relation to their price, the reason being that the price of the player has the potential upgrades built in.
In this case the current price for the 89 rated Depay is too high, therefore if I was provide a Spend or Swerve based solely on the 89 rated card I would sway towards a Swerve, however with the likelihood this card will be a 91/92 rated card this has to be considered.
This current version (89 rated) was good, it wasn’t 350k worth, however due to the fact he is pretty certain to receive multiple upgrades I expect the card to be noticeably better and when you compare the price against other cards of that sort of quality you are getting a good deal.
So after taking everything into consideration, it’s going to be a SPEND!
