BPL Team of the Season Prediction
Welcome to FUTWIZ’ Barclays Premier League TOTS Prediction. Over the past few weeks I’ve been posting articles where I’ve been narrowing down who I feel believes to be in the TOTS and, along with your input, I’ve been able to make a final team. Before I reveal the team though (or before you scroll down…) there’s a few points I need to make.
– The overall ratings and card stats on the TOTS are not meant to be realistic. I understand that there are players that have had “worse” seasons than other lower rated cards in the team, but will still be a higher overall. Just the way it works, sorry.
– The Most Consistent TOTS will make no difference to this team. You can be in both.
– Links to Part 1 here, Part 2 here and Part 3 here
– Every player in the TOTS will have had reasons listed previously, so read the previous part(s) before commenting. The ones that don’t have reasoing are fairly obvious (Suarez, etc.)
– If you could no only remember to leave your thoughts in the comments, but follow myself and FUTWIZ on Twitter and perhaps even share this around to your mates, that would be brilliant.
Vincent Kompany
The Belgian was widely requested in the comments of all three previous articles but I’m afraid my mind has not and will not be changed. Kompany has been poor in comparison to previous seasons and a few defensive lapses, especially in the earlier stages of the season, may cost City the title. Martin Demichelis may have been shaky during that period also but he is no longer an acceptable scapegoat for City’s defensive mistakes.
Per Mertesacker or Laurent Koscielny?
I honestly had real trouble deciding between the two and I’m sure Arsenal fans who watch them on a weekly basis will have a far more knowledgeable opinion than I do. I feel one, but not both, do 100% deserve a spot in this TOTS as they’ve either played well in a usually stable Arsenal defence or been put in impossible positions when on the receiving end of drubbings. There’s no real reason as to why I opted for Per apart from the fact I think he’s played more consistently at a higher standard. Koscielny may have also had some huge performances, not doubting that.
Sergio Aguero and Aaron Ramsey
I was genuinely surprised at how many people wanted Sergio Aguero excluded from the team based upon his number of appearances, especially given as Welshman Aaron Ramsey has only played once more in the Premier League this season. I feel it would be unfair to exclude one, let alone both on appearance numbers alone so both do make the team.
Raheem Sterling
He’s sort of appeared out of no where having not been in my draft last week, but I don’t think many could argue with his inclusion at this point in time. Liverpool will already have one hand on the trophy if they beat what people expect will be a weakened Chelsea side at the weekend and Raheem, in recent weeks especially, has played a huge contribution in this. Massive performances against both City and Norwich (the latter of course earned him a spot in TOTW) have been key in Liverpool’s title charge and given the reasons I listed in Part 2 (see link above), he’s hard to disagree with.
